The average millennial has a lot of stigmas to overcome, particularly when it comes to marriages. Millennials as a generation are redefining marriage as we know it. Back in the day, marriage was almost a requirement of age, but now the millennial generation is seeing marriage as more of an option, either marrying late or not getting married at all. Therefore because of this phenomenon, prenuptial agreements, more commonly known as prenups, are becoming more and more popular.

Millennials are marrying later and focusing on career aspirations, personal needs and the idea of forming a solid financial foundation before building a family--it’s because of this that prenuptial agreements are more necessary than they have ever been. Previously prenups have built a negative connotation, but these legal documents are extremely important as marriage happens later in life and there is more at stake. Prenups are becoming more of a practical matter than its previous reputation.

Since Texas is a community property state, the law is that property which is accumulated in a marriage is equally divided in a divorce. Prenups used to be glamorized as something that only celebrities and wealthy people did, but the truth is that anyone can benefit from protecting yourself and your assets with this simple legal action. The divorce rate is higher than it’s ever been, it’s important to protect yourself in the event of a divorce. Especially when it comes to division of property assets, debts and alimony. Prenuptial agreements are not the same for every couple, therefore there are many benefits for both spouses.

With all of the legal documents that happen when a contested divorce is filed, one of the things you can do to save yourself more hassle, aggravation and heartache is to protect yourself by retaining legal advice and signing a prenuptial agreement. Contact us today to see how we can help.
